INTERMEDIATE Art AGENDA May 4-8
Assignment due Monday, May 11
- ASSIGNMENT: Repetition and Pattern. (And FOOD!)
- STEP 1: Watch the short video on Wayne Theibaud below. He came onto the art scene in the 60's, about the same time as Andy Warhol and the other "POP Art" artists. The use of repetition, vibrant colors, and thick paint used by Theibaud became the trademark of his art. His highest price piece of artwork sold recently for $1.7 million. Pretty good price for some pies!
- STEP 2: In your sketchbook, list your favorite foods and sketch them out. Pick the food(s) that you would like to use in your artwork.
- STEP 3: On a full page in your sketchbook, COMPOSE your image. Show your food like it would be shown on a menu or on a website. How can you create REPETITION and PATTERN with your food that is similar to Wayne Theibaud's style but still your OWN work?
INTERMEDIATE Art AGENDA Apr. 27-May 1
Assignment due Friday, May 1
- ASSIGNMENT: TOY STORY! Tell a narrative with objects from home! You can use toys (people or animal toys) or if you don't have any (come on, we ALL still have toys!), you can use other objects to tell the story.
- STEP 1: Arrange your scene and take a close up picture. Rearrange and take a few more photos to be sure your story is coming through clearly.
- STEP 2: Draw from your best photograph. You can use any media you choose and color is not required.
- STEP 3: Send me BOTH your photo AND a picture of your drawing!
INTERMEDIATE Art AGENDA Apr. 20-24
Assignment due Friday, April 24
- ASSIGNMENT: Make an ORIGINAL artwork using only objects from outside
- Look up the work of ANDY GOLDSWORTHY and ROBERT SMITHSON (famous outdoor artists)
- Your original artwork can be realistic and recognizable or can be abstract and focus on the Elements of Art and Principles of Design
- You have LOTS of options! You can create it entirely outside, or bring objects inside
- You can press or squish flowers or plants for colors, draw with dirt (garden dirt is great!), you can use a stick as a tool or glue anything natural on to create a collage.
- How is CHARCOAL created? It's burned wood! Do you have a stick from an old fire? Draw with that! (PLEASE DO NOT BURN ANYTHING WITHOUT YOUR PARENTS PERMISSION AND ASSISTANCE!)
- Once your piece is complete, photograph it at a parallel angle to avoid distortion and I recommend photographing it OUTSIDE where the lighting is better
- EMAIL IMAGE to me at [email protected]
INTERMEDIATE Art AGENDA Apr. 13-17
Assignment due Friday, April 17
- ASSIGNMENT: FAMOUS ARTWORK REMAKE!
- Museums around the world are encouraging people who are quarantined at home to recreate famous works of art- only using items they have at home! The results have been amazing!
- Select a work of art (can be a "famous" work or even a not so famous work, but must be school approriate)
- Be sure to SAVE A COPY of the original artwork so you can send both images together.
- Recreate the artwork! Pay attention to the lighting, background, and expressions. If you are a model, you may need the help of a family member to photograph for you. (Or if you have a tolerant pet- let them pose for you!)
- Does not have to be a person!
- What can you use? Laundry, food, Legos, paper, dishes, props of any kind!
- EMAIL BOTH IMAGES to me- the original image and your recreation
- Have some fun with this one! It will take a decent amount of time to research, plan, and prepare so DON'T PROCRASTINATE!
INTERMEDIATE Art AGENDA Mar. 30-Apr. 4
Assignment due Friday, April 4
- ASSIGNMENT: SOCIAL COMMENTARY
- Research artwork done by Social Commentary artists Banksy and Paul Kuczynski
- Write a list of 5-10 possible social issues that you could create an artwork based on
- Sketch your idea in your sketchbook- thinking of how you can use ALL the space on the page, as well as WHAT POINT OF VIEW you intend to portray
- Create a FINAL piece on a separate page or any surface you can use (cardboard, newspaper, etc.) Try to create the piece as large as you feel comfortable.
- USE ANY MEDIA THAT YOU HAVE AVAILABLE- could be paint, colored pencil, crayon, marker, collage of ANYTHING, mixed media, etc.
- When you email the final image to me, tell me the MEANING of your piece, and the size and media you used.
- Consider your angle and lighting when photographing artwork. Photograph so that it is even with 2 sides of your camera screen, crop out excess background around the artwork, and be sure the LIGHTING is good and there are no shadows!
INTERMEDIATE Art AGENDA Mar. 23-27
Assignment due Friday, March 27:
- ASSIGNMENT #1-DRAWING ASSIGNMENT:
- Take a photo (or find one online) of a DISTORTED REFLECTION. It could be a reflection of a person or something else but MUST be distorted due to the curve of the surface reflecting it.
- Surface examples: chrome bumper on a car, shiny spoon or metal bowl from the kitchen, anything reflective and NOT FLAT (no mirrors).
- Media: graphite only to show the accuracy of the values (hint: if the image is in black and white, it is MUCH easier to use pencil) NO smudging!
- Draw on unlined paper (sketchbook)
- Must be approximately 9" x 12", fill your page and consider the NEGATIVE SPACE or background (this will also be distorted)
- This will be somewhat abstract- THAT'S what we are going for. Mild recognition of the subject but it's fine if it gets distorted beyond reality.
- Email me questions and send a photo if needed for a specific question
- Photograph final image with your phone or Chromebook and email to me: [email protected]
- Consider your angle and lighting when photographing artwork. Photograph so that it is even with 2 sides of your camera screen, crop out excess background around the artwork, and be sure the LIGHTING is good and there are no shadows!
INTERMEDIATE AGENDA Mar. 16-20
ONLY 1 Assignment due Friday, March 20:
- In your sketchbook (or some type of unlined paper), draw a collection of fruits/ vegetables.
- 3-5 fruits/veggies. Media choices:
- Can be done in graphite (keep it clean, no excessive smudges)
- Can be done in pen (use pen techniques to show value and texture)
- Can be done in colored pencil (color should be thick, rich, and creamy- press, layer, and build your color to eliminate the fibers of the paper coming through)
- Must be approximately 9" x 12", fill your page and consider the NEGATIVE SPACE or background
- Consider COMPOSITION: how is everything arranged, WHERE is it? table, outside, inside, bowls, other kitchen stuff? And lastly WHERE IS THE LIGHTING COMING FROM? Keep a consistent light source for a lifelike image
